During my time aboard Saga Sapphire I ate a lot of GOOD food, and I photographed nearly all of it so that I could share it with you!
Everything shown today in my blog was included in the fare price – even the specialty option of East to West! So, we have food from Pole to Pole, The Grill, East to West, Beach Club and room service – they offered fillet of beef on room service, I had to sample it! 😉
During the cruise we also had several BBQ’s, but 2 of them were nothing short of epic. I will share a few of the BBQ pictures today, but I will also put a blog together specifically showcasing the scale of both. They were incredible, they really deserve their own space. By far the BEST BBQ’s I have had on any voyage, and Saga Sapphire was my 30th cruise, so that says a lot.
All of the food onboard was bursting with freshness and a lot of it was specifically cooked to order. The bread and pastries were all made onboard (I developed an obsession with the pain au chocolat), as were the soups, and I do like a good soup!
I can honestly say that I didn’t have one bad meal on during my cruise, I just kept asking for more because I couldn’t get enough of the flavours! I can be quite a picky eater, but there were only 2 evenings that I can recall where I struggled with the restaurant menu and opted for room service instead.
I guess today a virtual lunch is on me, and I really hope you enjoy it!
I would like to say a massive thank you to Thierry Cherronnet Executive Chef de Cuisine, Francis Alimon Sous Chef, and the entire team aboard Saga Sapphire – the food was superb and I will make sure you are pre-notified of my next arrival – I need more Satay Lillit! 😉
Freshly cooked omelette, baked beans, hash brown and delicious crispy bacon.
Classic prawn cocktail (room service)
Aloo Palak – spiced curry with potato and spinach. It was delicious!
Chicken salad (room service)
Tempura calamari with cilantro salad and Kaffir lime vinaigrette. Best calamari that I have ever eaten. – East to West
Cream of vegetable soup
Sautéed lobster tail in Chardonnay butter sauce with creamy field mushrooms and Pilaf rice.
Turkey Burger (cooked to order) from the Beach Club
Some of the food from the German themed BBQ – corn on the cob, fresh fish, frankfurters, grilled tomato and jacket potatoes
Steak, potatoes and vegetables
Tempura soft shell crab with a curry dressing – so delicious I had to have one for my starter and my dessert!
Warm fudge cookie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce
Atlantic seared scallops with Thai basil – East to West
Tandoori chicken (cooked on the BBQ on the deck) with green beans and raita. Another incredibly nice dish!
Ham sandwich – sometimes you just need something light and simple!
Sizzling beef fillet with Balinese sauce – before the sauce is added……………..
……after the sauce is added – East to West (you MUST try this if you go on Sapphire!)
Crayfish (and other ingredients) inside a rolled poppadom, with a quails egg and nuts – it was something new for me and I enjoyed it very much, but it was quite spicy! East to West
Pan-fried fresh Halibut with passion fruit butter sauce, sautéed spinach and mashed sweet potato – This was another new dish for me, a real explosion of flavour in my mouth, it was so good!
Chicken breast ‘Parmigiana’ with linguine and salsify
Fresh fish and extra mushy peas – I didn’t want chips that day – Beach Club
A peek at the Seafood BBQ
Chocolate cake – I was very good, I only had a few desserts over the 16-nights
Tiger prawns infused with Galangal, curry-coconut milk – East to West
Cream of broccoli soup with croutons
Satay Lillit (prawns on a lemon grass skewer) with peanut sauce. This was quite possibly the nicest thing I have ever eaten, I even asked the chef for the recipe – East to West
Penne pasta with cherry tomato, garlic and basil sauce
Say hello to my little friend – FRESH pain au chocolat
This was my dilemma dish because on the menu were prawns and scallops, but on two different dishes! I went with the prawn dish and asked them to add some scallops, so, here we have sautéed tiger prawns in a garlic, parsley, tomato, olive oil and butter sauce, with fresh ratatouille and fondant potato – and scallops 🙂
Fillet of beef with french fries – Room Service!
Gado Gado salad – Indonesian chicken and cabbage with a peanut sauce – East to West
I couldn’t possibly share every single photo of every single thing I ate during the 16-night cruise, it probably would have taken me a month to put it all together, but hopefully the images above show you just how good the food aboard Saga Sapphire was – I only wish you could taste it!!!
BBQ blogs coming soon……………………….
