I asked Sarah herself to answer a few questions about her brand, it’s background and what makes the Sarah Haran collection so versatile, especially for cruisers and travellers in general.
Can you give my readers a little background on yourself and your beautiful bag collection?
I founded Sarah Haran Accessories after spending more than 20 years working in the corporate technology world. I travelled frequently and was forever changing handbags to suit different parts of my day. I wanted one beautifully made bag that could take me from work and travel to dinner and special occasions, without having to transfer everything from one bag to another.
That idea became the foundation of Sarah Haran. Our bags are designed around three principles: craft, colour and customisation. Each one is thoughtfully organised and can be styled in seconds using our interchangeable Style Pop-Ons®, including decorative trims, tassels, pouches and straps.
The result is a collection of bags that works hard while still feeling joyful and luxurious. You can change the personality of your bag to suit your outfit, occasion or destination, which means you can travel with fewer bags without compromising on style.
What materials do you use for your bags?
Our bags are predominantly handcrafted using beautiful Italian leathers, selected for their quality, texture and ability to wear well over time. We are known for our use of colour, from versatile neutrals to more uplifting and unexpected shades, and we also introduce carefully chosen materials such as tweed and canvas for selected collections.
The interiors are designed with the same attention to detail, including our signature pink linings and thoughtfully positioned pockets to help keep everything organised. We stand behind our craftsmanship with a lifetime guarantee, giving our customers confidence that their bag is designed to be enjoyed for many years and many adventures.
Why do you think your bags are particularly suited to cruise passengers and travellers?
Cruise holidays involve so many different moments: travelling to the ship, days exploring new destinations, relaxed time on board, drinks before dinner and more formal evenings. Packing a separate handbag for every occasion takes up valuable luggage space, which is exactly the problem our bags are designed to solve.
A Sarah Haran bag can be practical and spacious during the day, then completely styled for the evening by changing its strap, decorative trim or tassel. Several of our designs also include a detachable clutch, giving you an additional evening bag without having to pack one separately.
Our organisation is especially useful when travelling. There are dedicated pockets for the things you need close at hand, such as your phone, glasses, passport, cruise card and room key. You can spend less time searching through your bag and more time enjoying the journey.
Do you have any bags and accessories you would specifically recommend for cruisers that could be used for day wear, evening and formal wear – all in one bag?
The Dahlia is a wonderful choice for a cruise because she is effectively two beautiful bags in one. The main tote is spacious enough for travelling, days on board and excursions ashore. Attached to the front is a removable Ivy pouch, which can then be carried independently as a clutch or worn with a strap for the evening.
For cruisers who prefer a hands-free bag, I would also recommend our Poppy. She is an incredibly versatile four-in-one design that can be carried as a backpack, shoulder bag, crossbody or by her top handle. She is ideal for travelling to the ship and exploring ports, when you want your belongings secure and your hands free. Change her strap and Style Pop-Ons®, and she becomes a much more polished bag for wearing around the ship.
During the day, I would style either bag with a comfortable crossbody strap and a simple leather trim. For drinks, dinner or a formal evening, an Ivy or Millie can be carried as a clutch and transformed with an elegant chain, decorative trim, tassel or one of our more glamorous Style Pop-Ons®.
For those who prefer something smaller throughout the day, the Mini S is another excellent option. She is compact but practical; she can be worn crossbody or carried by her handles and restyled to complement everything from relaxed resort wear to an evening dress.
That is the beauty of our styling system: rather than filling your suitcase with several handbags, you can take one main bag, one small pouch and a carefully chosen selection of accessories. Together, they can create a wardrobe of different looks while taking up remarkably little luggage space.
Out of your entire collection, which is your favourite bag and why?
It must be the Dahlia. She was our very first design and represents everything I wanted to achieve when I founded the brand. She is beautifully crafted, exceptionally well organised and wonderfully adaptable.
I love that she can be a polished every day or travel tote, but the removable Ivy gives you a separate clutch for the evening. With a change of accessories, she can look classic, colourful, understated or glamorous. For me, she perfectly captures the idea behind Sarah Haran: one beautiful bag that settles the choice and brings you joy wherever life takes you.
Would I recommend a Sarah Haran bag for your next holiday? ABSOLUTELY!
