A crew member onboard the Carnival Conquest cruise ship has died following an accident whilst he was doing exterior maintenance work on the vessel.
The accident happened at around 10 a.m. yesterday morning whilst the ship was docked in New Orleans.
Carnival issued this statement:
“Earlier today, while a crew member from the Carnival Conquest was elevated in a cherry picker performing maintenance work on the side of the vessel, he became wedged between the cherry picker and a platform holding one of the ship’s lifeboats. The ship’s medical team responded, along with local paramedics, but, tragically, the crew member died. The ship was docked in its home port of New Orleans at the time.
“We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to our crew member’s family and loved ones in the wake of this terrible tragedy. Everyone in the Carnival family is heartbroken.”
Carnival is providing grief counselling to any crew member who wants it.
The Coast Guard is investigating the accident.
So very sad. Carnival you just can’t win. We feel for this line, their employees and all the families for this tragedy. RIP.
so sad !! God bless him and his family !!
We have sailed many ships and a few Carnival as well. The Conquest was among them. Please extend our sympathy to the family, the staff, crew and the whole CCL organization, such a tragic loss.
Wow So sorry to hear this This was our most favorite ship out of the 4 we have been on
Very sad news indeed our heart goes out to the family of this man who was just doing his job.I hope lessons can be learnt to avoid a repeat and crews will be safer in the future.Anybody who has taken a cruise can’t have failed to notice the hard work and dedication crew members give to a cruise line and sometimes the wages they are paid are lower than they should and could be.God bless this soul RIP
