Having just celebrated her 2nd birthday last month, Holland America Line’s, ms Nieuw Amsterdam is definitely a ship worth looking at a little closer. This 936 foot long beauty is jam packed with facilities and features to leave just about anyone open mouthed and wanting more.
She is clearly recognisable as part of the Holland America Line fleet, with her signature dark painted hull and double funnel she may look like most of her sisters on the outside but on the inside she is definitely in a class all her own.
So let’s have a peek inside. First of all dining. If it’s not about dining the quite frankly it’s not a cruise and Nieuw Amsterdam will definitely not disappoint. On board you can find the line’s new Pan Asian Restaurant, Tamarind. This is also accompanied by the Silk Den Lounge, an area offering panoramic views of the ocean and Lido pool area.
Also on board you will find the Manhattan dining room, Canaletto restaurant which is the line’s new Italian restaurant. Pinnacle Grill and Lido restaurant. So who’s hungry?!
Now we have touched on the dining what else can you expect to find on board. Well, like all cruise ship’s she offers and first rate spa and salon, offering beauty treatments most of us have probably only ever dreamed about. Nieuw Amsterdam is also home to specific Spa staterooms. These are specially selected staterooms located on the Panorama and Observation decks that include special spa amenities.
As well as a relaxing cruise, you can also try your hand at new skills whilst on board Nieuw Amsterdam. She offers a Digital Workshop which is powered by Microsoft. Here you can learn how to share files, especially photographs from your cruise via e-mail and more. All workshops are free and taught by Microsoft trained experts.
If you would rather pass on the tech part of life then why not pop along to the Culinary Arts Center. Presented by Food & Wine Magazine this demonstration kitchen offers guests the opportunity to really learn those gourmet cooking skills. Lessons are taught by Holland America Line’s own Chefs or special culinary guests.
For all you parents out there Nieuw Amsterdam is also family friendly and home to Club HAL. This dedicated youth area offers a wide range of activities and facilities for kids aged between 3 and 12. You can relax knowing your children are well catered for and probably having the time of their lives. Teens are also thought of and can spend their time chilling out in The Loft. This exclusive teen area is designed with fun in mind. Here kids can socialize and try their hand at something new like video editing.
Other areas on board include Crow’s Nest, Neptune Lounge, Ocean Bar, Piano Bar, Sea View Bar, Hydro Pool, The Showroom at Sea (large theatre) and the Sports Bar.
