Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest vessel, Norwegian Breakaway, arrived in Southampton this morning and has certainly NOT disappointed her awaiting British audience. Next stop, New York City, but for now she remains docked in Southampton at the City Terminal and we are certainly enjoying having her here.

She really does look wonderful and is jam packed with so many features and facilities I think you would need to have at least a week on board to investigate everything (great excuse for a cruise I say! 😉 ) and to sample all the different dining options on board.

Saying as it would probably take several blogs for me to note down everything that you will find on board I thought I would tempt you with information on a select few. A few that I am sure will make you want to jump on board and not look back!

The Manhattan Room – I have seen quite a few images of this space now and I just say it’s one area on board I know I would frequent. One of three main dining options, The Manhattan Room represents all that is grand about a New York City supper club. The space is elegant yet relaxed and offers guests a panoramic ocean view. In the centre, a dance floor. The perfect way to burn of post dinner calories.

Shakers Cocktail Bar – A classic Martini bar with a subtle twist. Obviously everyone is welcome but I do believe this could be the ideal lounge for ladies looking to relax and chat about girly things whilst sipping a specially mixed cocktail! The soft décor mixed with ultra-sheek touches and carefully selected lighting make this an ideal area to un-wind after a day exploring ashore.

Aqua Park – Now this is the place to be for adults and children! Sitting seventeen decks above the ocean you can throw yourself into water slide heaven with several fun-tastic options. You have the Free Fall (one of two drop slides) which is exactly as it sounds and the fastest water slide at sea, then there is also the Whip, a side-by-side set of twister slides that will no doubt leave you wanting more. If however you want something a little less exciting then you can choose to relax in one of the four hot tubs or enjoy a dip in one of two pools.

Fat Cats Jazz and Blues Club – Decorated in a way to make you feel like you have just walked into a New York City Jazz Club, Fat Cats is bound to be a hit with music lovers on board. You can relax inside or outside on The Waterfront and enjoy live performances every evening from some truly wonderful musicians.

Rock of Ages – As far as entertainment goes, this is the one! The 5-time Tony Award nominated musical, Rock of Ages, has arrived on board Norwegian Breakaway and you have full permission to rock out! The big hair and skin tight jeans are optional, excitement, music and a great show are guaranteed.

Sports Complex – This is quite possibly the BEST sports area at sea and ideal for all the fitness conscious people out there. You can enjoy the largest ropes course at sea and a plank that extends 8 feet over the side of the ship. There is also a basketball court, 9-hole mini golf course, rock climbing wall, spider web climbing cage and a bungee trampoline.

The above is a VERY small sample of what you can expect to find on board. There are numerous other great facilities including a kids only aqua park, spa, casino, nightclub, Cagney’s Steakhouse, O’Sheehan’s Neighbourhood Bar and Grill, Gelato bar and much more.

  1. This review makes me excited to book a cruise on this ship. A high rope course, a rock climbing wall? This ship sounds like it has it all. Thanks for the review.
